Kia ora, and welcome along to the very first episode of the OneLifeAppsNZ podcast. I’m Greg Harrison, host, recovering accountant, and probably still sounding suspiciously like someone who enjoys reconciling bank statements for fun. If you hear the faintest rustle of spreadsheets in the background, well, old habits die hard. To be honest, this is my first ever podcast. I promise I’ll get less awkward as things roll. Maybe. Thirty-five years of accountancy means my default setting is ‘explain the depreciation schedule’, but let’s aim for less snooze and more schmooze, shall we? The whole reason I started this is because life’s not just about numbers. I mean, sure, spreadsheets are great, but so is laughing at yourself when you can’t work out how your own microphone works. The plan’s simple: mix in tips to help you and your business, chat about issues that actually matter, keep things real, and, hopefully, have fun. If you leave with a grin, or even just thinking, “At least I’m not that guy,” I’ll take it. Now, launching a podcast mid-life is equal parts liberating and possibly bonkers. Would my younger self have seen this coming? Absolutely not. I used to be the guy with a calculator glued to his hand. Turns out, moving to a microphone is a bit like switching from walking to riding a unicycle on a windy Wellington day, wobbly, occasionally embarrassing, but good for a laugh and a half. I know many folks say, “I’m too old to start,” or, “That’s not me.” But honestly, most of the good bits in life start when you let go of looking silly. If you’ve ever fancied diving into something completely different, even if it means getting lost or, heaven forbid, laughing at yourself, you’ll fit right in. Whether it’s trying a new hobby, re-inventing yourself, or just not being a grumpy grown-up for a minute. Speaking of mixing things up, I wanted to highlight Unique Games on our site. It’s full of fun little challenges, like flying a saucer to collect ingredients in UFO Chef, or matching wits with Crime Scene Solver. You don’t need to be a gamer, just willing to have a go, make a few daft choices, and maybe spark an idea or two. It’s my way of reminding myself not to take things too seriously. Even if I still alphabetise my pantry. Thanks for joining me on this maiden voyage. Here’s to muddling through, learning as we go, and actually having some fun with it all. Remember to have fun!
